    To realize a Short film, great technical knowledge isn’t essential, neither great theoretical preparation. All you need is imagination, a television camera, a few friends prepared to act in it and some spare time. If this is your attitude, you could realize hundreds of Shorts, and who knows… you might even reach success. However, if you want to make things seriously, the right path is another, longer and responsible. It passes through the experience of whom has preceded us in the history of film; of those who has laboriously discovered and then applied the rules of cinema. And please, don’t even start thinking that Eisenstein’s Film Technique is Museum stuff, that Fellini has “had his day” or that you must be drip fed in front of the projection of the Seventh seal of Bergman. It’s believed, wrongly, that the Short film is perfectly comparable to the novella, a tale, and the film to the novel. On the other hand it’s partly true, because a Short asks for an ability of synthesis, of abandonment of the superstructures, an understanding of cinematic time such to be exclusive patrimony of the great talent or the great experience. The “novella”, the brief story that helps the young writer to begin, in cinema it’s called documentary.
